Our verdict

The AquaTru Classic is the easiest way to get certified RO water: no installation at all. It's well certified and wastes little water, but the clean tank is small and it lives on your counter.

Buy it ifYou rent, or don't want to touch your plumbing.
Skip it ifYou need a lot of water quickly.

Filtration and certification

Four stages. Certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58 and 401 by IAPMO. AquaTru claims a 4:1 ratio.

How it works

Fill the tap-water tank, plug it in, and filtered water collects in a removable 0.75-gallon tank you can keep in the fridge.

Countertop ice makers are filled by hand, so you can fill yours straight from the RO faucet. See the best water for an ice maker.

Filter costs

The RO membrane lasts up to 24 months or 600 gallons; the pre- and carbon filters are replaced more often. AquaTru sells 3- and 4-year protection plans separately.

How we evaluated it

This review is based on AquaTru's published specifications, the owner's manual where available, independent test reports and owner feedback, compared against the other models we track. We'll add hands-on notes as our testing progresses.
